BASIC TIPS FOR FILTER COFFEE

Filter coffee is a very popular slow brewing method (also known as the gentle method). Simple, quick, and versatile, anyone can make filter coffee, but it does require following a few steps to get it right. Our coffee expert and barista, Hind Kaddouri, shares the three basic principles for making the perfect filter coffee in this video.
To get the best possible result, it is essential to follow a few basic tips. Here we offer you some essential tips for making perfect filter coffee every time.
1. EQUIPMENT
It all starts with choosing your equipment.
You will need: A manual or electric burr grinder that produces a consistent grind. A scale to ensure the correct coffee-to-water ratio. A kettle with variable temperature settings so you can choose the brewing temperature.
2. INGREDIENTS
Coffee.
Choose freshly roasted coffee beans that are ground just before brewing to preserve their flavor. You can choose from a variety of beans, from light and fruity to dark and full-bodied, depending on your personal preferences. Beyond choosing the right coffee beans, it is essential to use the right grind. Opt for a medium grind, similar to the size of coarse salt.
Water.
Water is the main ingredient in your coffee, so make sure it is of high quality. Use filtered or spring water if possible, as tap water containing impurities can alter the taste of your coffee.

3. BREWING STEPS
Our first tip is to take your time. Preparing filter coffee is a ritual that requires patience and precision. It will take several attempts to master this method according to your tastes. Follow the steps below as if they were a recipe to obtain an aromatic and balanced cup of coffee.
Preparing ingredients and equipment
Quantity:20 g of ground coffee, multiplied by 15 to obtain the required amount of water, i.e., 300 g.
Rinse the filter to remove any impurities and preheat the infuser. Add the freshly ground coffee and shake gently to level it off.
Pre-brewing and brewing
Pour 1 (pre-brewing): pour 60g of water over the grounds.
Pour 2 to 4 (brewing): use 60g of water each time and allow to infuse gently.
Pour 5 (brewing): stir the coffee bed to recover all the granules and extract the maximum potential from the coffee dose used
The brewing time should be between 3 and 5 minutes for optimal flavor. If less than 3 minutes, the grind is too coarse. If more than 5 minutes, your grind is too fine.
You now have everything you need to make an aromatic and balanced filter coffee!
